If you look at a map, you’ll see that there’s lines that determines a country’s border

Now, if you go on the ground, how can someone tell where those imaginary lines are located?

Look at countries like Brazil, Russia, and China. They border A LOT of countries. How can they tell where that imaginary line is located? How can they secure their borders?

08 May 2010 Sao Paulo’s “Map of Violence” registers a steady decline

A war is happening in Brazil — A non-official civil war that is killing thousands of people in the streets. But something starts to change. In Sao Paulo, the most populous state, the violence is being reduced systematically, even on those more violent districts of the Sao Paulo’ state capital. At 90′s, the homicide rate was up to 400 per 100 thousands people in Jardim Ângela, a poor district in which live almost 300 thousand people. In one weekend, there were 50 executions and the bodies could be found in the streets. The situation couldn’t be worse and a irish Catholic priest took the initiative and start something that would change the lives of millions in Sao Paulo. At first, James Crowe mobilized the community leading the community members to a cemetery in the area, and together they discuss what should be done to stop the death of so many young men; and then they started to pressure the state government, which resulted in the creation of the Brazil’s first community police force. The results until today cannot be completely understand by the social scientists. The homicide rate was reduced to 33 in five years. This example of determination had become a model to be followed here. The “Map of Violence”, an official publication that has all information about violent deaths in Brazil, points these actions from civil society as the most viable solution to the criminality and violence. Indeed, because laws and police cannot resolve by themselves this kind of problem, it
