Question by emailfordon: I am considering jumping on a plane to go to Rio De Janeiro for Carnival! Bad idea?
I suddenly have vacation for a week and no plans. I am a singly gay guy, 40 years old, and would be traveling alone. I would just show up – no , no nothing. I would be winging it the whole way. Should I do it or plan it out better next time? Not sure if I could find the fun stuff to do if I just show up – and am thinking I may even have to sleep on the streets since hotels are likely full.

Question by Sigma0956: How much would a trip to Brazil cost during Carnival?
I would like to know how much would it roughly cost for a week long trip to Rio de Janeiro during Carnival in March 2011. Including airfare, (I don’t mind staying at a hostel as long as it’s safe), meals, sightseeing, transportation in Brazil, the whole nine yards?
Does 00 sound like a decent amount to save up for my overall trip? More or less? I will be flying from NYC. :-)

I went to Carnival in the Canary Islands. It was the same. Just don’t drink too much, be aware of what is happening around you, & you’ll have a great time.

The Carnival is Rio Janeiro Brazil’s chief event which happens at the height of the summer in Brazil. Each year, several thousands of tourists join the local citizens in festivities which spread over four days. The carnival starts on a Saturday and ends on Fat Tuesday, the day prior to Ash Wednesday which marks the start of the period of Lent for Christians. If you can’t make it to the Sambodromo at Rio Janeiro Brazil for whatever reason, you can be present at several of the street carnivals that they have all around the city. One of the most conventional street carnivals can be found at Banda de Ipanemais which draws a crowd of up to fifteen thousand. Besides you have a choice of Carnival or masquerade balls which are attended by celebrities; people put on designer costumes and dance till the wee hours of the morning. The Copacabana Palace hosts the most famous ball of all; there is live music by various bands who takes turns on the stage frequently accompanied by a guest singer. 28 Jul 2010 Carnival do Brazil – Foz do Iguacu – Carnaval 100%
 |  Category: Brazilian  | Tags: , , , ,  | Leave a Comment

a very good Carnival in Brazil you find also in Foz do Iguazu. The Brazilian Carnaval (Portuguese: Carnaval) is an annual festival in Brazil held 4 days before Ash Wednesday and marks the beginning of Lent. During Lent, Roman Catholics are supposed to abstain from all bodily pleasures, including the consumption of meat. The carnival, celebrated as a profane event and believed to have its origins in the pagan Saturnalia, can thus be considered an act of farewell to the pleasures of the flesh. Brazilian Carnival as a whole exhibits some differences with its counterparts in Europe and other parts of the world, and within Brazil it has distinct regional manifestations. Brazilian citizens used to riot until the Carnival was accepted by the government as an expression of culture. That was because the Brazilian carnival had its origin in a Portuguese festivity called “entrudo”.This tropical paradise is alive with mad passion in every walk of life. Axe (achay) means energy in Brazil and nowhere else is the heart-pounding, rhythmic energy more evident… Whether its an impromptu capoeira roda on a street corner, bursting with music, excitement and the typical Brasilian lust for life… or the sound of loud raucous laughter between two acquaintances over ice cold beer in local open sided bars… Brazil-Foz do Iguacu has it all!
