11 Sep 2010 Does anyone have any good traditional/popular Bulgarian or Brazilian recipes?

Question by jaxie: Does anyone have any good traditional/popular Bulgarian or Brazilian ?
My family has two foreign exchange students staying with us this year, one from Bulgaria and one from Brazil. They are both amazing girls and talk so much about their home foods that i would like to surprise them by making a dish for them from their countries. Can anyone help me?

Bolinhos de Bacalhau (Codfish balls)

A wonderfully tasty appetizer (salgado). Great with a cocktail or glass of cold beer.

1 pound Dried codfish
1 tablespoon Butter
2 teaspoon Chives, chopped
2 teaspoons Parsley, chopped
1/2 cup Onion, diced fine
1 cup Milk
2 cups Potatoes, cooked and mashed
3 tablespoons Flour
1/2 teaspoon Paprika
3 large Eggs, slightly beaten

Soak codfish overnight. Drain, cover with fresh water and simmer for 25 to 30 minutes. Remove bones and skin then chop fine.

Heat butter in a saute pan. Add chives, parsley, onion, and fish. When the onion is translucent remove from the heat and add remaining ingredients. Combine well. Check seasonings. Let the mixture cool and firm up for about 10 minutes.

Shape into small balls or cakes. Drop into hot oil, frying until golden. Drain on absorbent paper and serve warm.

10 Sep 2010 Has anyone ever been to Vitoria, Espirito Santo in Brazil?

Question by JadaSkye: Has anyone ever been to Vitoria, Espirito Santo in Brazil?
If so, I have a few questions about it….

Have you stayed in the hotel IBIS Praia do Canto?

I am travelling to Brazil next month to visit some friends there and this is the cheapest reasonable-looking hotel I can find on the internet, I can’ find any reviews. Is it nice?

Also: Can anyone tell me any nice places to eat, or good things to see and do?

Thanks!

Hi there,

Most of the IBIS are 3-star hotels, so you should be fine. Praia do Canto is also a nice place.

To have lunch or dinner I would recommend the ‘triangulo’. It’s a big area with lot’s of options to choose from. It’s also the place to go out by night if you want to have some fun.
Find some time to visit Vila Velha. A few minutes driving from Vitoria. Ask your friends to take you there!

Wish you a great time!!

07 Sep 2010 Has anyone stayed near the Lagoa Rodrigo De Freitas in Rio de Janeiro?

Question by lilr3dstar: Has anyone stayed near the Lagoa Rodrigo De Freitas in Rio de Janeiro?
I looked up the lagoon in google maps and it looked as if there was a very tiny island at the very south end. When I switched to Satellite view, it shows a set of buildings and a swimming pool on the island. Does anyone know if that is a hotel, or resort, or private home? I tried looking it up but I couldn’t find anything. Thanks.

As far as I know, ESPN latinoamerica will show a lot of the games, which I beleive includes Brazil, but I really cannot be sure. Also, if you have a good cable package you might get TV5 Monde, the French channel. They are televising every French game and all the quarters, semis and the final.

Question by Constanza: Does anyone know of a university in Brazil that offers Portuguese classes for foreigners?
Also, which city do you think would be best? Rio, Brasilia, or Salvador? I really want to go to Salvador though :)

And I do not want to go on a silly study abroad with a group of a zillion other non Portuguese speaking people.

Many thanks for your help!

21 Aug 2010 Does anyone know if there is a public transportation system in Rio de Janeiro?

Question by railer: Does anyone know if there is a public transportation system in Rio de Janeiro?
We would like to know if there is a shuttle service or taxi transportation between Rio De Janeiro International Airport and Martinique Copa Hotel
on Copacabana Beach. There is nothing mentioned on the Hotel website, and there isn’t information on the Brazil Tourist websire either, other than hiring a car driver is unsafe because of the poor roads and drivers. We would specifically like a bus/shuttle to and from the airport and hotel if anyone can give us the information on this.
