This is a good book for anyone interested in learning (or adding to their knowledge) Brazilian Rhythms.

Easy to follow, the author spends some time explaining the history behind the music, but more time teaching various rhythms. It’s good to see the percussion rhythms first and then shown applications to drum set.

Brazilian rhythms are hot right now in the music world. From Jazz to Pop, Brazilian influence is taking over. I have particulary always enjoyed Samba and Carnaval rhythms which are two stlyes included in this book. Also included are hand rhythms and sacred/spiritual rhythms which have added an amazing new flavor to my music. The book comes complete with a glossary of Portuguese terms which is essential when studying more about these incredibles beats from Brazil. With the help of the CD I have been able to witness my technique and ability to play Brazilian rhythms increase. Alberto Netto is brilliant, and I can not say enough about this book. It’s definitely worth every penny.
