Question by : some questions about travel to brazil and argentina?
First of all does anyone know when Carnival takes place in 2012? Also, I’m thinking of starting my adventure in Manaus but hope to be in Salvador by Carnival. I want to travel by land and water through Brazil and go from Manaus to Salvador and then to Belo Horizonte which is where some good friends live. From there I hope to journey on to Rio or Sao Paolo and then to Iguassu Falls and on to Buenos Aires, possibly Bariloche, and eventually Ushaia, Argentina all by land as well. I already looked into flights so what I do need help with is looking into bus fares or other fares (ferry or riverboat?) to make this adventure a reality. I’m a 31 y.o. female that is strongly considering this journey alone. How safe is it? I hear Rio is dangerous but many also recommend that a trip to Brazil is incomplete without a stay in Rio. I’m thinking of staying in hostels or if that’s not ideal budget hotels. I want to go on an adventure but hope I make it back home too!

Answer by Texan Boy I’m Brazilian and currently live in Texas. Your itinerary sounds fantastic I would just do as much reaserch as possible before going including its geography and culturally. Brazil is not any different than most countries in Europe or even USA in terms of violence and crime. For instance I would never drive alone through some streets of LA due to the increased gang activity there. You need to know where you are going and where to avoid. Northern Brazil is pretty safe for the most part but Rio and Sao Paulo could be risky if you don’t know your where abouts. I would avoid crowed places wearing expesive jewelry or expensive cloths. Pick pocketing is something very common along the biggest cities where there are lots of people close together like train stations and bus stops. I would ask the hotel about the area and the places you need to avoid. Always ask more than one person. Most people are scared of the favelas in rio, I would avoid by all costs. It’s common to find the police going against the drug dealers where you could find yourself in between the fire range. But other than that Brazil is a marvelous place. Beautiful people, very welcoming and friendly. I’m planning a trip from Sao Paulo to Bariloche in July where I will be stopping at I guazu falls and I camt wait. Good luck and if you have more questions shoot me an email through here.

Question by : How safe is it for me to take my Canon SLR camera to Carnival in Brazil?
I will be traveling to Brazil during carnival and will be in Bahia and Rio de Janeiro. Since it is will be my first time going, I am skeptical about lugging my baby (my Rebel) around.
I’m just scared of someone snatching it away from me, but I’m not sure if this mentality is based on movies I’ve watched. Lol.
Best answer:
Answer by ? ????? ? I think it would be an amazing opportunity to take pictures! I’m doing some traveling next summer and am taking my Canon Rebel, however it is NOT leaving my side. I think that as long as you keep it on you at all times, you should have no problem. I wouldn’t want to miss capturing some beautiful photos

a very good Carnival in Brazil you find also in Foz do Iguazu. The Brazilian Carnaval (Portuguese: Carnaval) is an annual festival in Brazil held 4 days before Ash Wednesday and marks the beginning of Lent. During Lent, Roman Catholics are supposed to abstain from all bodily pleasures, including the consumption of meat. The carnival, celebrated as a profane event and believed to have its origins in the pagan Saturnalia, can thus be considered an act of farewell to the pleasures of the flesh. Brazilian Carnival as a whole exhibits some differences with its counterparts in Europe and other parts of the world, and within Brazil it has distinct regional manifestations. Brazilian citizens used to riot until the Carnival was accepted by the government as an expression of culture. That was because the Brazilian carnival had its origin in a Portuguese festivity called “entrudo”.This tropical paradise is alive with mad passion in every walk of life. Axe (achay) means energy in Brazil and nowhere else is the heart-pounding, rhythmic energy more evident… Whether its an impromptu capoeira roda on a street corner, bursting with music, excitement and the typical Brasilian lust for life… or the sound of loud raucous laughter between two acquaintances over ice cold beer in local open sided bars… Brazil-Foz do Iguacu has it all! Question by : Which is the bettercity to visit in Brazil Sao Paulo or Rio?
I’m a considering going to Brazil but am unsure which city to visit. Sao Paulo or rio?
Best answer:
Answer by Richard R. Rio is a huge tourist spot, with lots of stuff to do. You’ll probably find more people that speak English there. Sao Paulo is more of a business place, its where you find most of your white collar workers and businesses men. So in short Rio = Relax, fun, party place. Sao Paulo = Businesses, work, straight lase place. Hope this helps.

In the wake of African decolonization, Brazil attempted to forge connections with newly independent countries. In the early 1960s it launched an effort to establish diplomatic ties with Africa; in the 1970s it undertook trade campaigns to open African markets to Brazilian technology. Question by : Will -0 get me a decent/clean hotel in Rio or Sao Paulo ?
I don’t want anything that’s really dirty or in a bad area at all….I don’t want to surround myself at a place where I may be robbed or be put in a bad situation or area.
How much would a safe and clean….reputable hotel(mention names if you will) cost me? or will be more so about $ 100-$ 150 for what I am looking for ?
Best answer:
Answer by Keninho To get a hotel room for less than $ 100 is a bit tough in Rio, the few times I went I usually rent an apartment, which is much more affordable. If you have to, the Arpoador Inn is pretty good (it’s a little section between Ipanema and Copacabana) and it’s next to the beach.
As for Sao Paulo, the only time I went there I really “splurged” and booked at the Hotel Ibis on Avenida Paulista (their main block). Really nice interior decoration in the rooms, clean, and nice hot water showers for about $ 94 a night.
Don’t forget, it’s summer there and Carnaval is approaching, so that can vary the prices by a lot.
Question by kittenkatt79: Brazilian waxing prices?
I’m curious about the price of Brazilian waxes in your area. When I lived in Pittsburgh, PA I only paid $ 45 at my salon there. I even got a Brazilian in Manhattan for $ 55. BUT, I moved to Kansas City, MO and I can’t find a reputable salon that will do Brazilians for less than $ 80 – what is that all about? Now I often have to resort to shaving down there, yuck (parched earth).
What do you pay and where do you live? Thanks.
Sorry… my boyfriend and I joke about how rough, itchy, a shaved crotch is vs. a waxed crotch. We call a shaved crotch parched earth.
Best answer:
Answer by justbambi2 I live in a small town outside a larger city, it’s $ 50 here locally at a very good salon but in a decent place in the city it’s $ 85 and up!
